The Oxidized Hearth Design

A compact, single-story modern residence that punches well above its weight. Clean geometry, bold material contrasts, and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow define this striking home — all within a surprisingly efficient 833 square feet.

The facade is a study in deliberate tension. A dramatic Corten steel accent volume anchors the left side of the structure, its warm rust patina playing beautifully against the dark, rough-hewn slate cladding that wraps the remainder of the exterior walls. A strong horizontal concrete canopy extends over the covered patio, reinforcing the flat-roof silhouette and giving the home its assertive, low-slung profile. Floor-to-ceiling glazing stretches across the front elevation, flooding the interior with light. A bold vertical chimney stack punctuates the roofline, adding just enough height to keep things interesting. The overall aesthetic is unmistakably contemporary — minimal, raw, and quietly confident.

Everything lives on one level here. The layout is straightforward but thoughtfully arranged, with private spaces tucked to one side and living areas opening generously toward the covered patio. No stairs. No fuss. Just smart, single-floor living.

The Living Room at 243 ft² is the heart of the home — generous, bright, and positioned to flow directly outdoors. Right beside it, the Kitchen clocks in at 181 ft², a solid and well-proportioned workspace complete with a pantry for those of us who hoard tinned goods. The Hallway at 61 ft² connects it all without wasting a square foot.

The private wing keeps things simple. The single Bedroom offers a comfortable 195 ft² — enough room to breathe — and comes with a dedicated closet. The Bathroom at 72 ft² is a respectable size, and the Utility room at 63 ft² handles the less glamorous side of domestic life with quiet dignity.

The star of the show? The Covered Patio at 292 ft². That’s not a typo. Nearly a third of the total footprint is dedicated to sheltered outdoor space, shaded by that bold concrete canopy. Rain or shine, this home has you covered — literally.

We have more facade options of this design:

Forest Green Siding with Light Rust Accents

4/11

The siding now wears a deep forest green with a light rust bloom, and it completely shifts the facade’s mood. That earthy, weathered finish gives the boxy volume a rugged, almost woodland-camouflage edge—like the house decided to dress for the trees.

Against that changed skin, the dark brick chimney reads sharper, the pale concrete roof slab feels cooler, and the broad glass panels look even crisper. The contrast is punchy but controlled, giving the front a sleek modern frame with a slightly feral streak.

Red Brick Siding with Light Rust Accents

5/11

The big shift is the siding: it’s now red brick washed with a light rust tone, and that change gives the facade a warmer, earthier punch. The surface feels richer and more tactile, turning the long low form from crisp modern box to something moodier and a bit more rugged—in a good way, like it finally found its favorite jacket.

That updated brick plays especially well with the raw concrete roof slab, the black window frames, and the broad glass walls tucked beneath the deep overhang. It also ties neatly into the tall chimney mass and the weathered metal volume at the side, so the whole front reads more layered, more grounded, and slightly less likely to take itself too seriously.

Urbane Bronze Siding with Dark Rust Accents

6/11
house siding urbane bronze with dark rust

The big change is the siding: an urbane bronze skin washed with dark rust, giving the facade a moodier, more sculpted punch. On the boxy side volume, that finish turns the clean panel joints into sharp graphic lines, while the weathered tone adds a sly industrial wink without disturbing the crisp modern geometry.

That new bronze-rust surface plays brilliantly against the charcoal brick chimney, the pale concrete roof slab, and the black-framed glass walls. It makes the flat-roofed facade feel richer and more tactile, like the house put on a tailored coat and then rolled in a very stylish storm.

Black Siding with Dark Rust Finish

7/11
house siding all black with black rust

The big change is the siding: it is now all black with a black-rust finish, wrapping the facade in a darker, moodier skin.

That shift makes the house feel more monolithic and sculpted, like a sleek cabin that drank too much espresso. The textured patina gives the flat planes extra depth, especially on the tall entry volume and the long horizontal wing.

With the facade darkened, the pale concrete roof slab pops harder, and the full-height glass reads even sharper against the inky cladding.

The chimney mass and crisp rectangular forms still anchor the design, but the new blackened exterior turns the whole composition more dramatic, raw, and quietly theatrical. It looks minimal, but with a deliciously brooding streak.

White Brick and Rust Siding

8/11

The big change is the facade palette: crisp white brick now wraps the main volume, while rust-toned cladding gives the side mass a bold, weathered punch. That swap makes the house feel brighter and sharper, with the rusty section acting like the cool, slightly dramatic sibling.

The new contrast also boosts the clean modern lines, especially around the tall chimney, flat roof edges, and deep concrete overhang. Against the dark window frames and broad glass walls, the white-and-rust combo lands with real snap—part gallery, part cabin, part very stylish toaster.
