16 Swedish Country Houses That Will Spark Your Wanderlust

Last updated on December 21, 2025 · How we make our designs

Check out our Swedish style country house designs that blend nostalgic farmstead charm with thoughtful details that fit modern everyday life.

These Swedish country houses grew from a shared love of old farmsteads, small manors, and cottages that look like they’ve always had a loaf of bread cooling in the kitchen.

We pulled in classic falun‑red siding, soft sage and pistachio tones, steep roofs and chimneys, then nudged the proportions and details so they feel familiar, but just a little sharper and more comfortable to live in today.

As you look through them, notice how porches, verandas, and tiny galleries shape the way you arrive, and how simple paths, hedges, and flower beds quietly “aim” you toward the front door.

The colors of shutters, doors, and roofs are doing a lot of the personality work too. Sometimes calm, sometimes cheerful, occasionally slightly smug about how well they match the wildflowers.

Some homes hug the roadside, others lean toward lakes, meadows, or inner courtyards, but each one is built around daily rituals. Muddy boots, morning coffee, kids racing across the grass, someone forever “just popping out” to check on the roses.

Timeless Red Swedish Farmhouse Retreat

This farmhouse leans into the classic faluröd red cladding with crisp white trim, giving it that “I’ve been here forever” confidence. The simple rectangular volume is broken up by the central front gable and porch, so the house feels welcoming instead of just boxy and serious.

We kept the steep tiled roof and tall chimney as a nod to traditional rural homes, but tightened the proportions so it feels sturdy rather than bulky. Generous multi‑pane windows are stacked neatly on both floors, pulling in views of the fields and making the modest footprint feel way bigger than it looks from the path.

This house leans into that soft sage cladding, with tall vertical boards and crisp white trim giving it a calm, tidy presence in the fields. The classic red tile roof tops it all off, adding warmth and that familiar Scandinavian countryside vibe we all secretly want.

We played up symmetry with the stacked windows and twin gables, so the facade feels ordered but still relaxed, kinda like Sunday afternoon in house form. The small front porch and side deck are intentionally simple, using natural wood steps and railings to ease the transition from gravel path and wildflowers straight into the heart of the home.

This house leans into that cheerful mustard yellow façade, paired with crisp white trim that frames the tall windows like a neat picture. The soft green metal roof tops it all off, giving a quiet nod to the surrounding forest and tying the whole thing together in a very “of-course-it’s-Swedish” way.

The centered entry porch, with its modest posts and dark blue door, gives a friendly sense of order without feeling stiff, as if it’s politely inviting you in but not shouting about it. Curved hedges, the white picket gate and the gravel path all guide the eye straight to that front door, making arrival feel a bit like walking through a storybook cover.

This cozy homestead leans into that classic Falun-red siding with crisp white trim, giving the whole place a calm but confident presence in the garden. The steep gable, small attic windows, and chunky chimneys nod to old farmhouses that were built to be practical first, charming by accident.

We kept the entrance simple with pale double doors and just a couple of concrete steps, so arriving feels casual, almost like you’re just popping over to check on the berries. The slightly weathered roof tiles and the soft, overgrown planting around the base were very much on purpose, because perfection here would honestly feel a bit out of place.

This house leans into classic Swedish red siding with crisp white trim, giving it that “I’ve been here forever” feeling even when it’s brand new. The simple gabled volume, neat porch, and perfectly lined-up windows were inspired by old farm manors, just cleaned up a bit so it doesn’t look like it still stores hay.

We pushed for strong symmetry on the front, because it quietly makes everything feel calm and kind of reassuring after a long day. The steep clay-tiled roof, deep eaves, and compact porch not only keep the weather off, they also frame the entrance in a way that makes you oddly happy to just walk up and knock.

This house leans into a calm pistachio palette with tall vertical cladding and cream trim that make it feel both upright and friendly, like it dressed up but still wore comfy shoes. The compact hipped roof in warm red tiles crowns the boxy volume, giving it that classic Swedish “I’ve been here forever” look even if it just moved in.

We framed the entrance with a petite porch, chunky corner pilasters and a centered door so the façade feels formal without taking itself too seriously. Symmetrical windows, muted shutters and low clipped hedges keep everything orderly, while the loose flower beds and gravel paths soften the edges and make the house feel properly rooted in the countryside.

This cottage leans into classic Falu-red siding, crisp white trim and a chunky stone base that makes the house feel nicely grounded in the garden. The split entry with natural wood and white doors adds a friendly, almost handshake kind of welcome, while the small bench keeps the facade relaxed and not too serious.

The long, low roof with weathered shingles and a single skylight is inspired by old farmhouses, giving extra loft space without making the house look tall and fussy. Window boxes packed with geraniums echo the surrounding flower beds, tying the architecture to the garden so the whole place feels like it sprouted right out of the soil.

This design leans into the classic red timber siding but softens it with mint-green shutters and a crisp white door, so it feels familiar yet a bit refreshed. The dormer windows pop out of the tiled roof like little lookout cabins, giving the upper floor generous headroom and charming street presence.

We kept the façade long and low to sit comfortably along the roadside, then framed it with simple hedges and a low picket fence so it feels welcoming rather than grand. Even the three sturdy chimneys are treated as part of the composition, marching along the ridge and giving the whole house that slightly storybook silhouette that people secretly hope for in the countryside.

This country house leans into the classic falun-red siding, then softens things with crisp white trim and that playful mint-green porch that feels almost like a cake decoration (in a good way). The tall, simple windows are kept narrow and neatly framed, giving the façade a calm, familiar face that fits right into the surrounding trees and lawn.

We wrapped the entry in a small veranda with turned posts and railings, so even a muddy-boot arrival feels a bit ceremonial. The stone base, modest roof pitches, and separate barn building keep the whole place grounded and practical, while the circular flower bed out front adds just enough charm to say, “yes, someone actually loves this place.”

Forest-Framed Scarlet Swedish Courtyard Farmstead

This countryside cluster takes the classic falun-red barn look and turns it into a small, social courtyard village, with the main house and outbuildings casually facing each other like old friends. The pitched roofs, white-trimmed windows, and modest porch keep everything unfussy, so it feels lived-in rather than polished within an inch of its life.

Each building is scaled to a clear purpose, which is why the ensemble feels so calm and understandable at a glance, from the solid main home to the leaner storage sheds and the outdoor dining corner in the middle. Low stone walls and planted borders loosely frame the property, giving it just enough order so the wild meadow and forest beyond can stay, well, delightfully wild.

This red-clad country house leans into classic Swedish farm tradition, then quietly upgrades it with a double-height front porch that feels a bit like a tiny outdoor gallery. The crisp white railings and posts frame the entrance, giving everyday comings and goings just a touch of ceremony without taking itself too seriously.

We kept the forms simple—steep gables, small dormers, and a compact side wing—so the house looks settled into the landscape rather than dropped on top of it. Stone paths, clipped grass, and patches of wild rock and meadow wrap around the house, tying the architecture to its setting and making the whole place feel like it grew here over time.

Cream Gable Swedish Garden Hideaway

The tall gable and narrow vertical cladding give the house that classic Swedish look, but the soft cream color keeps it calm and a bit romantic. Paired with the warm terracotta roof, it feels rooted in old countryside traditions while still looking fresh enough for a modern postcard.

We shaped the front with a centered door, flanked by big windows and a petite balcony above, so the whole façade feels welcoming and slightly grand without trying too hard. Window boxes, potted plants on the steps, and the curved gravel path pull the garden right up to the walls, which makes the house feel like it’s been here forever, just tidier than most of us manage at home.

This farmhouse leans into that deep Falu red cladding, paired with crisp white trim to frame the windows like simple picture frames against the countryside. The tall, almost boxy main volume with its steep corrugated metal roof is inspired by classic barns, giving the house a sturdy, no-nonsense character that still feels cozy.

We added the side wing and sheltered entry to break up the massing a bit, so it doesn’t look like one big red shoebox dropped in the field. The attached carport echoes the main roofline in a lighter way, tucking the car neatly under cover while stretching the house toward the farm buildings and tying the whole yard together.

Gambrel-Roof Rose Garden Swedish Escape

This country house leans into classic falun-red siding and a gambrel-style roof, then softens the whole look with creamy white trim and pale green doors that feel almost like a wink. The wraparound steps and low porch keep everything close to the garden, so you’re never more than a few strides from the roses and lupines.

At the front, the glazed veranda with its delicate cross-mullioned windows is really the heart of the design, inspired by old Swedish glass porches where people nursed coffee and gossip in equal measures. Those big windows, the tucked-in entry, and the compact proportions all work together to make the house feel welcoming and kind of storybook, without tipping over into theme-park cute.

This design leans into traditional falun-red siding, then quietly rebels with that soft mint door that feels a bit like a friendly wink. Tall, white-trimmed windows march around the façade, giving the entrance volume a bit of a sunroom vibe and making the porch feel like a gentle pause between garden and living room.

The steep tiled roof, gabled front, and sturdy chimney borrow from old farmhouses, but everything is sharpened with clean lines and crisp detailing so it never feels fussy. Simple stone steps and a gravel path keep the house grounded in its rural setting, while the carefully proportioned porch and window layout make the whole thing feel welcoming, almost like it’s leaning forward to say “come on in already.”

This design leans into the classic falun-red siding but refreshes it with crisp white framing and a playful mix of porches and balconies, so it feels both traditional and a bit proud of itself. The steep gable roof with its neat clay tiles echoes old rural manors, while those generous windows keep the house feeling open and sociable rather than closed-off and stoic.

We layered the facades with small moments—the upper balcony off the living space, the glassy sunroom below, the side deck that rolls into the garden—so the house gently nudges you outside at every turn. Vertical paneling, clean corner boards and that little decorative gable window tie everything together, giving the home a tidy, tailored look that still sits very comfortably in the soft, green landscape.
