19 Brilliant Contemporary Academia Style House Designs

Last updated on August 17, 2026 · How we make our designs

See how collegiate brick, steep gables, and bookish corners meet glass walls, cliff views, and even a tower. No pop quiz required.

Contemporary academia style gives a home a thoughtful, grounded presence. We took cues from old colleges, libraries, field stations, and study halls, then made room for modern life and the occasional excellent view.

Look for steep gables, brick and stone, timber doors, and glass volumes that keep familiar forms from feeling stuck in the past. There are courtyards, towers, covered walks, and plenty of bookish corners, no pop quiz required.

From coastal cliffs to desert ground and snowy hillsides, each house responds to its setting in its own way. The scholarly mood stays, but thankfully the dress code is much more relaxed.
