Last updated on · ⓘ How we make our floor plans

This compact two-story cottage design focuses on efficient space, classic proportions, and simple, charming detailing. With a 20 ft by 20 ft footprint, it offers just enough room for everyday comfort without wasting a single square foot.
The façade is symmetrical and deliberately quaint. Horizontal lap siding, painted a soft light tone, wraps the exterior, contrasted by crisp trim around the windows and doors. A centered front porch with a gabled entry and modest columns frames the main door.
Above, a pitched roof in wood shingles carries a charming front dormer with a small gable and paired windows, adding attic light and just a hint of drama. Rooflines are clean and steep, giving the house a storybook profile without going full fairytale.
These drawings are preliminary floor plan drafts. They are structured for easy download and come as printable PDF sheets, ready for pinning to your wall, marking up with ideas, or impressing friends who love rulers.

Main Floor – 20 ft × 20 ft

The main floor is organized as an open living core with a private bedroom and service spaces tucked neatly to the back. Circulation is straightforward: enter through the porch, step into the living room, and everything else unfolds logically around the central stair.
Rooms and spaces:
- Porch: Compact front porch centered on the façade, providing a sheltered entry and a natural pause before stepping indoors.
- Living Room: Full-width front living area, stretching almost the entire 20 ft width. It anchors the house, with generous wall space for seating and storage and direct connection to the stair.
- Kitchen: Located to the left rear of the plan. Open to the living room while still defined enough to hide a few dirty dishes from immediate view.
- Utility Room: Tucked behind the kitchen at the back left corner. Ideal for laundry, mechanicals, or the mysterious closet of things-you-swore-you’d-organize.
- Bathroom: Centrally placed along the rear wall, easy to access from both bedroom and living areas.
- Bedroom: At the back right, running along the right side of the plan. Offers privacy from the front of the house and a quiet retreat away from living activity.
- Stair: Straight-run stair set near the center, rising along the boundary between living room and rear rooms, efficiently linking both levels.
