Charming Cottage in the Woods Floor Plan

This design is a compact two-story family home with a clean, modern-farmhouse attitude and a strictly no-wasted-space philosophy.

The façade features tall, simple gables, crisp white board-and-batten siding, and sharp black window trim for contrast. A standing-seam metal roof crowns the form, with a smaller gable over the centered upper window and shed metal awnings over the main-floor windows. The front door sits under a flat canopy, flanked by warm wall sconces and opening onto a full-width wood deck that acts as an outdoor stage for everyday life.

The main level is all about everyday flow. Central stairs anchor the plan, with living to the left, kitchen to the right, and service spaces tucked neatly at the back. Decks stretch along the front and rear, turning the small footprint into a surprisingly sociable house.

  • Entryway: compact front entry, opening directly to the main living zone.
  • Living Room: generous open living area along the left side, ideal for flexible furniture layouts and the occasional blanket fort.
  • Kitchen: open kitchen on the right front, with direct visual connection to the living room and front deck.
  • Bathroom 1: main-floor bathroom at the rear left, convenient for guests and post-yard adventures.
  • Laundry: dedicated laundry room at the rear right, close to the back deck for easy airing-out of life’s messes.
  • Utility/Mechanical: utility room beside the laundry for systems, storage, and mysterious boxes.
  • Stairs: straight-run central stair, efficiently linking both floors.
  • Decks: 2 exterior decks – a full-width front deck and a rear deck for grilling, lounging, or both at once.

The upper level is the quiet zone. Bedrooms flank a central hall and stair, with a shared bathroom at the back. Short walks, easy circulation, zero drama.

  • Bedroom 1: large bedroom on the left, sized comfortably for a main bedroom or an outrageously spoiled guest.
  • Bedroom 2: matching bedroom on the right, ideal as a second bedroom, office, or studio.
  • Bathroom: full shared bath centered at the rear, accessible from the hall.
  • Hall / Landing: central hall at the stair top, providing simple, direct access to all rooms.
